(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Police responded to a call at approximately 8:30 a.m. on April 11 regarding a man threatening people with a weapon in the 100 block of North Stadium Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers identified the suspect as 59-year-old Michael Whited, a resident of Columbia.

A standoff between Whited and police ensued for several hours at his residence. In order to ensure the safety of all involved, the Columbia Police Department deployed its Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team to the scene. Fortunately, Whited was taken into custody without any injuries to himself, officers, or the public.

Whited has been charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and misdemeanor resisting arrest. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.8477.
