(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Parks and Recreation staff have announced the temporary closure of all park and trail restrooms as of today, February 13th. This decision comes in light of the forecasted extremely cold temperatures over the next few days. The closure is a precautionary measure to prevent any potential damage to the restroom plumbing, valves, and fixtures due to freezing and shattering.
According to Parks and Recreation, they have a number of heated restrooms that are normally open during the winter season. However, these heaters are not able to adequately warm the facilities in such extreme cold conditions. To avoid costly repairs, park staff will be adding non-toxic antifreeze to sinks and toilets, which means the restrooms must remain closed.

Signage will be posted at all parks and trails to inform users about the closures. The restrooms are expected to reopen once temperatures return to seasonal averages. In the meantime, for any inquiries or concerns, individuals can contact Parks and Recreation at 573.874.7460.
