Columbia Parks and Recreation staff is reopening heated park and trail restrooms starting Thursday, Jan. 27. The restrooms were closed on Jan. 19 due to extremely cold temperatures.

Parks and Recreation has a number of heated restrooms that normally remain open through the winter. However, heaters are not able to adequately warm the restrooms in the extreme cold, which can lead to broken pipes, valves and fixtures, resulting in thousands of dollars in repairs.

To prevent breakages, park staff added non-toxic antifreeze to sinks and toilets, which meant the facilities had to be closed.
