(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Fire Department Enhances Citywide Rescue and Fire Response Capabilities with Addition of Ladder 7
On Monday, April 14, the Columbia Fire Department announced the placement of Ladder 7 into full-time service at Fire Station 7. This addition expands the department's citywide rescue and fire response capabilities, joining Ladder 1 and Ladder 2 in providing comprehensive services across Columbia.
Ladder 7 is staffed with four personnel and equipped with tools for vehicle extrication, technical rescue, and special operations incidents. Its deployment enhances the department's ability to respond quickly and effectively, particularly in the growing southern region of the city.
It is important to note that Ladder 7 is not a newly purchased truck, but rather a reserve apparatus that has been placed into active service to better meet the needs of the community. Reserve apparatus are older vehicles kept in the department's fleet as backups. While they are not typically staffed or used on a daily basis, they are maintained and ready for deployment when frontline vehicles are unavailable due to maintenance, repairs, or extended emergency responses.

By reassigning this vehicle and its capabilities to Station 7, the department is making strategic use of its resources to improve coverage without additional capital investment. This decision was made with careful consideration by Assistant Chief of Operations Eric Caszatt who stated, "The capability Ladder 7 brings to southern Columbia and the overall emergency response system is powerful, especially on incidents when every second counts." He also added that this move aligns with their commitment to improving service and coverage throughout Columbia without adding additional costs to taxpayers.
Fire Station 7 is located at 400 Green Meadows Circle in southern Columbia. The addition of Ladder 7 will undoubtedly enhance emergency response efforts in this area and contribute to overall community safety. The Columbia Fire Department continues to prioritize innovation and strategic resource management in their mission to protect their community.
