(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ COLUMBIA, MO - The City of Columbia is inviting members of the community to a meet and greet event to learn more about the Community Connector program. The event will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 5-7 p.m. at the Activity & Recreation Center located at 1701 W. Ash St.
The purpose of the event is to introduce attendees to the Community Connectors team, which consists of three part-time community connector specialists and the City's engagement coordinator. This team will provide information on engagement opportunities within the community and gather feedback on the City's engagement strategies.
Sydney Olsen, Engagement and Public Communications Manager who oversees the program, emphasized the importance of collaboration and understanding in building a strong community. "The Community Connector program aims to promote community involvement and ensure that residents have a say in shaping the future of our city," she stated. "We believe that by working together, we can create meaningful connections that enrich our residents' quality of life."

The theme for this event is inspired by the Stone Soup folktale, where each individual contributes an ingredient to make a delicious meal. Similarly, this event will focus on how the unique differences among community members are what make our city rich and vibrant. Attendees can also look forward to refreshments, including soup, provided at the event.
To ensure there are enough refreshments for all attendees, registration is required at rb.gy/mpqi3h.
Established in 2024, the Community Connectors program aims to elevate marginalized voices, foster dialogue, and build trust between community members and city government. Through this program, residents will have opportunities to co-design engagement opportunities, participate in decision-making processes, and bring attention to any arising issues or concerns within their communities.
