(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - The City of Columbia is seeking input from community members on its planned update of the Complete Streets policy. The policy, which guides the design and construction of streets in the city, aims to ensure that they are safe, accessible, and comfortable for all users - whether they are walking, biking, driving, or using public transit.
To gather feedback from residents, the city will be hosting two public open houses in June. These informal drop-in events will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn about the goals of the policy update and share their own experiences with getting around the city. They will also have a chance to identify priorities for future street improvements. City staff and project team members will be present at both open houses to answer questions and assist attendees in completing a short survey.
The open houses will take place on Saturday, June 7 from 9-11 a.m. at the Activity & Recreation Center (ARC) on 1701 W. Ash St., and on Thursday, June 12 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Columbia City Hall in Conference Room 1A/B on 701 E. Broadway. Both meetings will offer the same information and opportunities for feedback, allowing residents to attend whichever date and location is most convenient for them.

The original Complete Streets policy was adopted by Columbia in 2004. However, as transportation needs have evolved over the past two decades, updates to the policy are necessary. The revised policy aims to better support safety, mobility, and access for people of all ages and abilities.
According to city officials, input from all members of the community is crucial in shaping how Columbia designs its streets to serve everyone safely and effectively. Residents can learn more about the policy update and take a survey at BeHeard.CoMo.gov/Complete-Streets.
