(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - The City of Columbia is taking steps to manage the urban deer population by hosting three hunter orientation and registration sessions for residents interested in bow hunting on designated City properties. These sessions, which are open to the public at no charge, will be held at the Activity & Recreation Center (ARC) and are being organized by Columbia Parks and Recreation in collaboration with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).

The one-hour sessions will take place on August 18th, 21st, and 25th at various times. These are the only opportunities for hunters to obtain a City hunting permit. Interested individuals must register online at CoMo.gov and attend one of the orientation sessions. Upon completion of the session, pre-registered individuals will receive their permit.

It is important to note that permits issued in 2025 will remain valid until January 15th, 2027. However, permits issued in 2024 or earlier have expired and hunters must register again for the upcoming hunting season.

Bow hunting will be allowed during two designated seasons: September 15th to November 13th, 2026 and November 25th, 2026 to January 15th, 2027. Hunters must carry their permit with them while hunting on City properties and display an accompanying permit in their parked vehicles.

In addition to following all relevant MDC rules and regulations related to hunting, participants must also adhere to the City's deer management program guidelines. This program was initiated in response to concerns over the increasing urban deer population and its impact on vehicle accidents.
