~ The City of St. Louis Department of Personnel has been recognized for its exceptional efforts in hiring and recruitment by the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis. The department was honored at the Urban League's inaugural Employers Appreciation Luncheon on August 2, 2024, held at the Marriott Hotel.
During the event, Michael P. McMillan, President and CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, presented an award to Dr. Anthony Byrd Sr., representing the City's Department of Personnel. This award acknowledges the department's significant contributions to boosting the workforce of the City.
The department was specifically recognized for its successful community job fairs and its strong partnership with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis. As one of the largest employers in the region with over 5,000 employees, the City plays a crucial role in providing employment opportunities to thousands of people in our community.

Sonya Gray, Director of Personnel, expressed her gratitude for this recognition and praised the Urban League for their unwavering partnership. She stated that their dedicated initiatives, events, and people have brought instrumental change and development to our community. By working together, their goal is to provide employment opportunities and improve livelihoods in order to make St. Louis a better and more equitable place to live, work, and play.
Mayor Tishauro O. Jones also commended the Department of Personnel for their well-deserved recognition from the Urban League. She highlighted Director Gray and her staff's concrete efforts in modernizing application software this year to improve speed and transparency in hiring processes. These efforts ultimately help deliver better services to residents of St. Louis.
