~ The City of Springfield has recently completed the implementation of its new cloud-based budgeting and transparency portal, OpenGov. This two-phase project was aimed at improving the budgeting process for City staff and providing readily available reports and data to the public.
The first phase, which was implemented with the 2023-2024 budget, focused on internal improvements. This resulted in a more streamlined and collaborative budgeting process for City staff. Additionally, it made reports and data easily accessible to the public.
The second phase of the project was completed on Wednesday, with the launch of an online financial and transparency portal. This portal can be accessed at https://www.springfieldmo.gov/opendata and displays a variety of City data including financial dashboards, reports, Springfield Police Department data, audits, and videos explaining how to interpret the data. The portal also includes a list of frequently asked questions with illustrative charts.

City Manager Jason Gage expressed the importance of being able to share data quickly and effectively both internally and with citizens. He stated that the transition to OpenGov has brought their budgeting process into the 21st century. The transparency portal allows for more effective communication with stakeholders through visually appealing dashboards and metrics.
As the City continues to add performance metrics and track them accordingly, more data will become available on the portal. This will provide citizens with a deeper understanding of how their tax dollars are being used.
