(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - As winter weather continues to affect the city, the City of Columbia is taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of its residents. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for the area from 6 p.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9. The NWS predicts a total snow accumulation of 2-4 inches during this time.
To keep residents informed and updated, the City will be posting updates on its various social media platforms and on CoMo.gov. John Ogan, a representative from the City of Columbia Public Works, stated that a team of 19 snowplow crew members will be reporting at 7 p.m. on Thursday to address the expected arrival of winter weather. The crew will focus on maintaining first, second, and third priority routes throughout the night to ensure safe travel for residents.
Drivers are advised to remain cautious while traveling as there may be slick spots and potential travel impacts due to the weather conditions. Temperatures are expected to stay just below freezing during this time, which could cause challenges during the morning commute. However, forecasters predict that all winter weather activity will end by mid-morning Friday and temperatures will rise throughout the day.

Go COMO Transit services are expected to operate normally on Friday; however, customers are advised to use caution when traveling to bus stops or Paratransit van pickup points as paths may be icy or snow-covered.
The City of Columbia Utilities department has announced that solid waste collection will continue as scheduled on Friday; however, for customers with Monday collections, their roll carts should be placed out for collection on Saturday instead. Jason West from the Utilities department also stated that trucks will collect as much as possible depending on weather and road conditions. Saturday's collection will only include trash and not recycling.
To ensure efficient trash collection and snow removal, residents are reminded to follow the guidelines for roll cart placement during winter weather, which can be found on CoMo.gov.
