(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - As winter weather continues to impact the city, the City of Columbia is taking necessary measures to monitor and respond to the situation. Updates and information can be found on the City's various social media accounts as well as on their website, CoMo.gov.
The City of Columbia Public Works department has a 40-person snowplow crew that has shifted their focus from plowing priority snow routes to residential streets on Friday afternoon. This crew will continue to work on plowing neighborhood roads throughout the day. At 7 p.m., a 20-person snowplow crew will take over and work overnight, with support from a 4-person Fleet Operations crew who will be repairing any out-of-service vehicles.
Residents can track the progress of plowing using the Street and Snow Route Priority Viewer map, which is available at CoMoSnow.com. For this particular winter weather event, crews are systematically plowing from the center of the city outwards towards the city limits. This approach alternates with each storm; during the previous storm on January 4th, crews began at the city limits and worked inwards towards the center.

It is important for residents to remember that a street is considered passable when it can be safely navigated by a front-wheel drive vehicle at a reduced speed while using appropriate winter weather driving techniques. Passable does not necessarily mean that there will be bare pavement or completely clear wheel paths.
The City would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding as crews work diligently to make all streets accessible.
In regards to public transportation, Go COMO fixed-route bus service is operating normally on Friday and is expected to continue normal operations on Saturday, January 11th. Riders are encouraged to use the ETA SPOT app to track their bus in real time and receive service updates. Notifications will also be shared through Alerts.CoMo.gov which provides updates via text, email or voice call.
Paratransit services will continue to operate on a case-by-case basis. Customers will be contacted directly if there are any issues accessing their homes. However, paratransit riders are advised to exercise caution as walkways and paths between their homes and the Paratransit van may still be icy or snow-covered.

The City of Columbia Utilities department has suspended curbside refuse and recycling collection for Friday. Customers whose refuse was not collected should leave their roll carts and recycling at the curb, as crews will finish their routes on Saturday. Monday's curbside refuse routes that were impacted by the weather will also be collected on Saturday, however, recycling will not be collected.
If your refuse was not picked up as scheduled, please report it to the Contact Center at 573.874.CITY (2489) or online at CoMo.gov/city-managers-office/report-an-issue so that collection crews can respond accordingly. To ensure efficient trash collection and snow removal, residents are reminded to follow guidelines for roll cart placement during winter weather, which can be found on CoMo.gov/city-source/december-2024/roll-cart-placement-winter-weather.
In terms of public health, several warming centers and shelters plan to remain open regardless of weather conditions. However, due to changing conditions, it is recommended that individuals check with the location before going.
The City of Columbia is committed to ensuring the safety and accessibility of its residents during this winter weather event. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through the City's various communication channels and take necessary precautions while traveling in these conditions.
