(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Parks and Recreation has officially kicked off their annual winter trout fishing program at Cosmo-Bethel Park. Located at 4500 Bethel St., the park is now open for anglers to enjoy the sport of trout fishing. However, there are some regulations in place to ensure the safety and preservation of the fish. All trout caught must be released unharmed until January 31, 2026. During this time, only artificial baits are allowed, with no natural or scented baits permitted.
Starting February 1, 2026, anglers will be able to harvest trout under statewide regulations. However, a valid Missouri fishing permit and a trout permit are still required for participation. The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation works closely with the Missouri Department of Conservation to stock Cosmo-Bethel lake with trout every year. This partnership also extends to other lakes in City parks, which are regularly stocked and maintained to promote species diversity and provide local fishing opportunities throughout the year.
