(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ The City of Columbia Stormwater Utility is seeking input from residents on the updated City of Columbia/Boone County/University of Missouri Joint Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP). The plan outlines the strategies and objectives for addressing the water-quality impacts of stormwater runoff over the next five years, in accordance with its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
To gather feedback, the city is accepting comments on the draft plan until April 10 through an online form at missouri.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9oAwiVh4z85Lo8K. Additionally, a public meeting has been scheduled for April 2 from 5:30-7 p.m. at City Hall's Conference Room 1A/1B. Representatives from the City of Columbia, Boone County, and the University of Missouri will be present to discuss the draft SWMP.

In addition to updates to the management plan, there will also be proposed changes to an existing city ordinance. Section 12A-178 of the City Code will now include language addressing "human waste or litter from encampment activities or other gatherings in close proximity to any waterway."
Interested parties are encouraged to visit ehs.missouri.edu/program-areas/environmental-matters/swmp to review the draft Stormwater Management Plan. The City of Columbia is committed to ensuring clean and safe water for its residents and welcomes community input on this important issue.
