(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Starting Monday, May 13, the City of Columbia Parking Utility will begin installing 15-minute curbside pickup parking signs and meters in downtown Columbia. This initiative is part of the city's efforts to improve parking convenience for customers.
The locations for the 19 curbside pickup parking meters were carefully selected in collaboration with members of the Downtown Community Improvement District (CID). The goal is to provide customers with quick access to business-centric areas. The time limit of 15 minutes was chosen to ensure regular turnover of parking spaces.
This curbside parking program was first approved by the City Council in June 2020. Its aim is to streamline pickup services for all downtown businesses and create a more customer-friendly environment. It should be noted that these spaces can be used for curbside pickup needs for any downtown business, not just the one located directly adjacent to the meter.

Prior to May 13, designated curbside parking spaces were marked with red canvas bags over the parking meters. These bags will be removed as part of the sign installation process. Once the signs are in place and the meters have been programmed with their new 15-minute time limits, patrons will be responsible for ensuring meter payment during their stay. The parking rates will be consistent with the standard on-street rate of 60 cents per hour.
The installation of these new curbside pickup parking signs and meters is expected to greatly benefit both customers and businesses in downtown Columbia. With easier access and a streamlined process, it is hoped that this initiative will create a more efficient and enjoyable experience for all involved.
