Springfield, Mo. ~ Springfield Police Department's Traffic Section is offering experienced riders the opportunity to enhance their skills through the Share the Road civilian motorcycle course. This one-day course aims to equip motorcyclists with tools and techniques to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes.

The final course for 2025 will take place on Saturday, Oct. 11 and is free of charge. Interested riders must submit their applications by Thursday, Oct. 9 at noon. After a thorough review process, selected participants who meet the minimum requirements will receive further information via email.

Share the Road covers advanced riding techniques, motorcycle handling, object avoidance, and other skills that can help riders become safer while on the road. To be eligible for this course, riders must have a valid motorcycle endorsement (not a permit) and own a motorcycle with a minimum engine size of 250cc (no three-wheel variety). The motorcycle must also have legal exhaust and handlebars (no "ape hangers") and be street legal for inspection purposes.

In addition to these requirements, riders must also have motorcycle insurance, a legal DOT approved helmet, eye protection, footwear that covers the ankles, proper motorcycle attire, and optional equipment such as armored or padded gear. All participants are also required to sign a liability waiver.
