Springfield, Mo. ~ As the 80th Springfield Police Academy kicks off, the Springfield Police Department is proud to welcome 19 new recruits to their ranks. This diverse group of individuals includes 16 men and three women from various states such as New York, Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois, Idaho, and Missouri.

The recruits come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring with them a variety of education and work experience. Some have served in the military, while others have worked in corrections, sales, or private businesses.

Over the next six months, these recruits will undergo intense law enforcement training totaling 1,075 hours. This rigorous program will prepare them for their future roles as police officers.

Upon graduation from the academy, the new officers will then work alongside experienced field-training officers (FTOs) for an additional 640 hours (16 weeks) of on-the-job training. After completing this program, they will be assigned to the Uniform Operations Bureau.
